On Wednesday 7th May all the Year 1's visited Poole's Cavern in Buxton.  We all had wonderful experiences during our visit, children and adults alike.  This was certainly helped by the lovely weather which allowed us to enjoy and appreciate the outdoor space.  During our visit to Poole's Cavern the children went underground led by a guide who talked to them about the history and geology of the cave but also gave them opportunities to use their imagination and see pictures within rock formations.

The cave was stunning with some beautiful stalactites and stalagmites, but it was very cold.

We then contrasted this by going over ground when we walked above the cavern, through Grin Low Woods to Solomon's Temple, a Victorian folly at the top of the hill.  Here the children could climb the folly to look at the surrounding area and the magnificent views and explore the country park.

Back in school our follow up work will concentrate on writing riddles about things found in caves (including the riddle work from our visiting writer, Anne Hamblen, who was in school last week) and representing our ideas in modelling materials.
