We visited Wood Lane Environmental Centre, to enhance the science teaching and learning that we have been covering this half term.  During the visit the children compared different tree barks, counted tree rings to learn about how old trees are, hunted for minibeasts, leaf identification, played mini-beast games and pond dipped to learn about pond life.  After lunch, the year group were split into 3 groups and 1 group created a tree collage from natural materials, another group used mini-beasts as an inspiration for dance and drama and the final group did mini-beast sculptures from pieces of wood, grass and other natural materials found within the centre.  The best part of the day (for the children!) was walking home in the torrential rain and getting soaked to the skin!!!!
