On Wednesday 5th December both Year 2 classes visited the Millennium Galleries.  One half of the day was spent exploring the Ruskin Gallery  which is about creativity and inspiration and full of different patterns, textures and colourful images to encourage the children's imagination and the Metalwork Gallery which explores the history of the light metal trades in Sheffield.  They found out about the products made and stories of the people who made them.  They saw an array of Sheffield tableware, cutlery and flatware that made the name of Sheffield famous throughout the World.   The other half of the day was spent in a print workshop.

The children enjoyed looking at and talking about different pictures, sculptures and objects within the Ruskin and Metalwork Galleries.  They also spent some time in sketching the things that interested them the most.

The print workshop was led by one of the Galleries resident artists.  She showed the children how to use a pattern that they had previously sketched, to make a printing block.  The children then used their own print to help make a class banner, which was then given to the school.

We had a great day out and learnt a new exciting art technique.
