Foundation Stage had the first of a series of visits to Beacon Wood. This wood belongs to the Woodland Trust and is over 400 hundred years old.
We asked the children before the visit. What do you know about woods? What do you think will find in the woods?
Joseph asked "Does a kissing gate kiss on the way to Beacon Wood?" We certainly passed through several gates.
So what were the children doing in the wood? Your child was encouraged to look closely at the woodland environment using many of their senses in a series of games. These nature games involved the children learning to co-operate and work together in pairs or more.
Meet a tree encourages the children to use all their senses to find their tree once their blindfold has been removed.
On returning to school the children were learning to take turns to speak about their experience and to represent it in map making.
